Punjab to launch ‘Labour Card’ for workers soon

Labor Card will soon be launched for workers in Punjab. The card will offer 14 different financial benefits to the workers.

This was announced at a conference, “Protecting workers’ rights,” held in connection with International Migrants Day that will take place on December 18. The event was jointly organized by the Punjab Labour and Human Resource Department (L&HRD) and Migrant Resource Centre (MRC).

More than 50 people participated in the conference and various issues were discussed including migrant rights as well worker’s rights and responsibilities. Challenges in the field of labour migration and Pakistan’s strategies to address them were also discussed.

Punjab Minister for Labour and Human Resource Ansar Majeed Khan said that International Migrants Day is observed to raise awareness about the rights of migrants.

He also announced that the Labour Card for workers will have 14 different facilities as part of the initiative. Workers will be able to buy subsidised merchandise and get concessions in transport fares. He added that the card can also function as a debit and ATM card.

The card will also ensure PKR15,000 worth of financial benefits to workers who are earning a minimum wage between PKR20,000 to PKR25,000.
