An Islamabad district and sessions court has directed law enforcement agencies to arrest Imaan Mazari and her husband Hadi Ali Chatha within 24 hours for failing to appear at a hearing concerning a case related to controversial tweets.
Court Proceedings and Orders
During the hearing, Islamabad Police DIG Javed Tariq appeared before the court, where Judge Afzal Majoka questioned the police about the non-execution of the arrest warrants issued against the couple.
The judge emphasized that the authorities must act promptly regardless of the suspects’ whereabouts, whether inside Pakistan or abroad. He issued a strict order to ensure the warrants are enforced and cautioned that failure to do so would result in contempt of court proceedings.
DIG Javed Tariq assured the court that the warrants would be implemented without delay. The court then recessed, reiterating that non-compliance could lead to legal consequences.
Earlier Developments
At the start of the hearing, the court summoned both the DIG and the Director of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to explain why Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha were not presented in court. Judge Majoka inquired about their current location and expressed dissatisfaction with the police’s failure to comply with the arrest orders.
The court took a strict stance on the matter, requiring the DIG Operations and FIA Director to appear in person and subsequently gave authorities a 24-hour deadline to apprehend the couple.
