Punjab Schools to Resume as Scheduled After Winter Holidays

Lahore, January 9, 2026: The Punjab Education Minister, Rana Sikandar Hayat, has dismissed circulating rumors about extending the winter vacation for schools and colleges across the province. He confirmed that all educational institutions are set to reopen on January 12, 2026 (Monday), in accordance with the original schedule.

Clarification on Winter Vacation Dates

Winter breaks in Punjab’s public and private schools began on December 22, 2025, originally planned to conclude on January 10, 2026. Despite misinformation spreading on social media and other platforms regarding prolonging these holidays, the Education Minister emphasized that no official directive has been issued to extend the break.

  • Winter vacation period: December 22, 2025 – January 10, 2026
  • Schools and colleges reopening date: January 12, 2026 (Monday)
  • Claims regarding extension labeled as fake and unauthorized

Academic Schedule Updates

Aside from holiday schedules, the Education Department also announced revisions to examination timelines for matriculation and intermediate level students:

  • Matriculation exams will now be conducted after Eid ul Fitr, postponing the previously scheduled date of March 3, 2026.
  • Intermediate exams are also rescheduled to take place following Eid ul Fitr.

Summary

All Punjab schools and colleges will resume classes promptly as planned on January 12. No modifications to the winter vacation period have been officially announced. Students and parents are advised to follow updates from genuine sources and disregard any false notifications about holiday extensions.
