Learner permits now cost Rs500, a massive jump from Rs60. This whopping 733% increase might discourage some people from going after their driving dreams.
Regular motorcycle licenses cost Rs980 per year, up from Rs580. Cars and jeeps have a steeper fee too, going from Rs1,180 to Rs2,280 annually. If you drive light transport vehicles (LTVs) or heavy transport vehicles (HTVs), be prepared to pay Rs2,480 for a year.
The international license fee has tripled from Rs1,830 to a whopping Rs6,030. This sudden increase might disrupt travel plans for those wanting licenses valid abroad.
The government hasn’t officially explained why they made these big increases, but some think it could be to make roads safer with stricter licensing and maybe to bring in more money.”
