Islamabad – April 15, 2025:
A Special Court hearing cases under the Official Secrets Act granted two key requests submitted by the legal team of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder — permission to speak with his children and undergo a comprehensive medical checkup.
During the hearing held at the Adiala Jail, the PTI founder’s counsel pleaded for humanitarian consideration, citing his prolonged incarceration and limited contact with family. The court acknowledged the emotional and psychological importance of family interaction and approved a one-time telephonic conversation with his children, to be arranged under jail supervision.
Additionally, the court approved the plea for a medical examination. The legal team had raised concerns over the PTI founder’s health, referencing symptoms of fatigue and stress, and requested a full medical evaluation by a private or government-approved doctor. The court directed jail authorities to ensure timely facilitation of the checkup, with a medical report to be submitted at the next hearing.
The PTI founder, who remains incarcerated in connection with the cipher case and other related charges, has continued to deny all allegations, claiming political victimization. His party members welcomed the court’s decision, terming it a small but important step toward protecting basic human rights.
The next hearing is scheduled for later this month, where further legal developments in the cipher case are expected.
