RAWALPINDI: Bushra Bibi, wife of jailed former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, was shifted back to Adiala Jail on Friday after undergoing eye surgery at a private hospital in Rawalpindi, jail authorities confirmed.
Bushra Bibi is currently serving a seven-year sentence in the £190 million corruption case and was earlier sentenced to 17 years in the Toshakhana 2 case related to the purchase of a jewelry set gifted by the Saudi crown prince. The PTI had recently raised concerns about her health and called for proper medical evaluation and treatment.
According to a statement from Adiala Jail, she complained of impaired vision in her right eye and was promptly examined by ophthalmologists, who diagnosed retinal detachment. Based on medical advice, surgery was recommended.
She was moved to a private hospital on Thursday evening, where tests and evaluations were completed before the procedure. The surgery was carried out by Professor Dr. Nadeem Qureshi and his team after obtaining her consent.
Following a successful operation and an overnight hospital stay, she was discharged and transferred back to jail. Authorities said post-operative care and follow-up examinations will continue as per doctors’ recommendations.
