Reforms for various Police Departments
After reviewing these reports, the Chief emphasised on the need to revamp. He highlighted how it was important to modernise the system with changing times. These reforms will inevitably result in increased efficiency overall and are particularly expected to ensure the timely and merit-based completion of the investigation system and improve the conduct of criminal case investigations. The New orders for the renewal of the investigation wing are to be implemented soon, as per the Chief.
Another aspect of the Investigation wing targeted was the Traffic police department. IG Islamabad held a meeting with Senior Superintendent of Traffic Police Mohammad Sarfraz Virk and SSP Safe City Shoaib Khan. Within this conference, it was decided that traffic violations will now be streamlined through e-challan and Safe City cameras. The SSP investigation was entrusted with the significant responsibility of supervising all investigations.
Multiple other departmental changes were decided on, for example the number of SP’s and DSP’s. Furthermore, The Special Branch of the police will undergo digitisation, with the establishment of a specialised wing within it aimed at achieving improved outcomes. Counter-Terrorism department previously only existed as a rapid-response group. However, as per the reforms, it will now be revamped on the lines of Punjab CTD, besides being digitised. The Anti-riot Unit is also set to be restructured. It will be equipped with modern and anti-riot gears and kits and modern training for the increased personnel will be provided.
