ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered immediate steps to control inflation in the country, despite expressing concern about worrying economic indicators.

PM Shehbaz presided over a meeting on Thursday during which the Ministry of Finance updated him on the country’s current economic situation.

PML-N leaders Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Ahsan Iqbal, Miftah Ismail, Zubair Umar, party spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb, and others, including concerned authorities, attended the meeting.

PM Shehbaz said during the meeting that urgent efforts are being undertaken to strengthen the country’s economy. He told his economic staff to come up with a specific plan for reforms.

In addition, he issued directives ordering that measures to reduce inflation be done on a priority basis.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy provided the prime minister with a charge sheet detailing the prior government’s “incompetence.”

The power division has issued a charge sheet for the prior government’s ‘incompetence.’

PM Shehbaz chaired a meeting on energy and electricity load shedding during which the Power Division submitted the document.

Furthermore, the Power Division’s report stated that during the prior government, technical flaws were not corrected, and timely repairs and replacement of spare components were not performed. The majority of these flaws were administrative, while some stemmed from policy decisions.

The prime minister voiced his displeasure with the situation and demanded that the faults and flaws be addressed immediately.
