The People’s Unity of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) CBA union has stated that it will go on strike against the national airline’s privatisation on Thursday.
PIA CBA coalition President Hidayatullah said at a press conference on Thursday that all district-level booking offices of the national airline will be closed for 2 hours as a token strike beginning Thursday.
He issued a 48-hour deadline to the PIA management and the interim government to refrain from privatising the national airline.
“The union will take important decisions on Friday,” he said.
CCoP gave nod to privatise PIA
In a significant milestone, the Cabinet Committee on Privatisation (CCoP) approved the privatisation of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Monday.
The decision was made during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Privatisation (CCoP), which was chaired by then-Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar.
The meeting discussed the Privatisation Commission’s recommendation to include Pakistan International Airlines Co. Ltd (PIACL) in the privatisation process.
Following a legislative modification, the CCoP agreed to include Pakistan International Airlines Co. Ltd (PIA) in the list of active privatisation projects of the current privatization plan.
The Privatisation Division provided a summary of detailed updates on the Roosevelt Hotel’s privatisation.
Following a discussion, the CCoP granted approval to the Privatisation Commission to hire a Financial Adviser to process/structure transactions at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York, an asset of PIA Investment Limited (PIA-IL).
