Pakistan’s federal cabinet has given the green light to print new currency notes, accompanied by the formation of a committee tasked with finalizing their designs. This decision was announced during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad.
New Currency Notes and Design Committee
The Ministry of Finance briefed the cabinet on the initiative, highlighting that the State Bank of Pakistan is developing modern and secure currency designs. The new denominations to be introduced include Rs100, Rs500, Rs1,000, and Rs5,000 notes.
To ensure the notes meet contemporary standards, international experts have been consulted. The designs will incorporate advanced security features and reflect Pakistan’s regional diversity, historical landmarks, contributions of women, and environmental themes.
Additional Cabinet Approvals
Alongside the currency decision, the cabinet approved forwarding the private Haj policy draft for 2027–2030 to a committee for further review. It also endorsed prior decisions made by the Energy Cabinet Committee on December 24, 2025, and the Economic Coordination Committee on December 23, 2025.
