Nvidia Supplier Wistron Opens $700 Million Texas Plant to Build Next-Gen AI Chips

Taiwan’s Wistron, a key manufacturing partner for Nvidia, officially launched a $700 million facility in Fort Worth, Texas on Tuesday, marking another major step in the broader push by Taiwanese electronics manufacturers to expand their production footprint within the United States as global demand for AI infrastructure continues to soar.

Home to Nvidia’s Most Powerful AI Systems

The Fort Worth facility is dedicated to manufacturing Nvidia’s GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Superchip, a component central to what Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has described as the most powerful AI supercomputer in the world. According to Wistron, this is the very site where Nvidia’s first GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Superchip was both built and mass-produced within the United States, giving the plant a symbolic significance well beyond its production output alone.

The facility’s mandate doesn’t stop with current-generation hardware either. Wistron confirmed the plant will also manufacture Nvidia’s next-generation Vera Rubin Superchip, positioning the Texas site to remain central to Nvidia’s product roadmap well into the future rather than being tied to a single chip generation.

Scaling Up Fast

According to Nvidia, the factory is expected to ramp up production significantly over the course of this year, eventually reaching a manufacturing capacity of tens of thousands of computing boards per month. That kind of scale reflects just how intense the current demand for AI computing infrastructure has become, as companies across virtually every industry race to build out the data centre capacity needed to train and run increasingly powerful AI systems.

A Meaningful Source of American Jobs

Beyond the technology itself, the plant has already created more than 500 jobs, according to Nvidia, with plans to expand the facility’s workforce to 1,000 employees by the end of the year. That kind of rapid hiring trajectory underscores how quickly this facility is scaling up its operations, moving from launch to a fully staffed production site within a matter of months.

Part of a Much Larger US Investment Push

This Fort Worth facility isn’t a standalone project. Nvidia has framed it as part of the company’s broader $500 billion investment commitment in the United States, announced back in 2025. That figure gives some sense of the scale of Nvidia’s ambitions when it comes to building out domestic AI manufacturing capacity, an effort that spans not just chip fabrication itself but the broader ecosystem of suppliers, like Wistron, that assemble Nvidia’s designs into finished, deployable systems.

Why Taiwanese Manufacturers Are Expanding Into the US

Wistron’s move to build out significant manufacturing capacity in Texas reflects a broader trend among Taiwanese electronics companies, many of which have historically concentrated their manufacturing operations in Taiwan and mainland China, but have increasingly been expanding production directly within the United States in recent years. This shift has been driven by a combination of factors, including growing demand from American technology companies for supply chains located closer to their end markets, ongoing geopolitical considerations around semiconductor supply chain resilience, and incentives tied to US industrial policy aimed at reshoring critical technology manufacturing.

For a company like Nvidia, whose products sit at the very centre of the global AI infrastructure buildout, having key manufacturing partners establish production directly within the US offers advantages in terms of supply chain security, reduced shipping times, and closer coordination between chip design and final system assembly.

The Broader AI Infrastructure Race

This development comes amid an intensifying global race to build out AI computing capacity, as major technology companies and cloud providers compete to secure access to the latest, most powerful chips available. Nvidia’s GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Superchip and the upcoming Vera Rubin Superchip represent the cutting edge of this hardware race, and having dedicated US-based manufacturing capacity for these components positions Nvidia and its partners to meet demand more quickly than relying solely on overseas production and international shipping logistics would allow.

A Signal for the Broader Tech Industry

Beyond its direct significance for Nvidia and Wistron, this facility launch adds to a growing body of evidence that the AI infrastructure boom is translating into tangible, large-scale physical investment within the United States, not just abstract corporate spending commitments or cloud computing capacity announced on paper. Physical facilities like this one, creating hundreds of jobs and producing tens of thousands of computing boards monthly, represent a concrete manifestation of just how significant the current AI buildout has become across the global technology supply chain.

Looking Ahead

With the facility already operational and scaling toward its planned workforce and production targets by the end of the year, the Fort Worth plant is positioned to become an increasingly important node in Nvidia’s global manufacturing network. As demand for AI infrastructure continues to grow across industries ranging from cloud computing to enterprise software, facilities like this one, capable of producing both current and next-generation AI chip systems, will likely remain central to how quickly companies worldwide can access the computing power needed to build and deploy increasingly sophisticated AI applications.
