In 2023, a significant development took place at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore as the main runway underwent a thorough reconstruction and upgrade, allowing for the accommodation of Category F aircraft. This project incurred a cost of Rs18.5 billion.

Looking ahead to the new year, the focus will shift to the construction of the Muridke Aerodrome project. Upon completion in March 2024, the existing Walton Aerodrome will be relocated to this new facility.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has an ambitious agenda for 2024, with seven projects scheduled to commence. These include the construction of a multi-storeyed car parking facility for Bacha Khan International Airport, the upgrade of the Charlie and Alpha taxiways at Multan Airport, and the construction of Apron H lights and Apron floodlights tower.

In Karachi, efforts will be directed towards improving passenger movement by upgrading the outer and inner roads of Jinnah International Airport. Additionally, a new air traffic control tower and fire station are slated for construction at the Karachi Airport. Meanwhile, the groundwork for a new grade fleet airport in Dera Ismail Khan will commence at a different location.

Sukkur Airport is set to undergo extension and upgrades, with a focus on supporting the main runway of Karachi Jinnah Airport and facilitating F category aircraft. Simultaneously, the Allama Iqbal Airport terminal building and expansion project is expected to be completed within two and a half years.

These developments underscore a commitment to modernizing and enhancing aviation infrastructure across various airports in Pakistan, ensuring improved efficiency, safety, and capacity to accommodate a diverse range of aircraft.
