Telecom firms will employ the Multi-Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS) to confirm consumers’ identities prior to providing a new SIM card. At PTA headquarters on Friday, a contract was inked between Nadra and telecom operators.

Scammers who managed to get around the outdated biometric technology used to identify users before issuing SIM cards compelled the change.

The Jazz, Ufone, Telenor, and Zong sales divisions’ outdated biometric verification tools have been upgraded to comply with the new system’s requirements.

The new technique, according to officials, will make it difficult to obtain a new SIM card using fictitious fingerprints.

Before issuing a new or duplicate SIM card, the new method will need impressions of multiple fingers for authentication as opposed to the old system’s single thumb impression.

The system will ask for impressions of two separate fingers randomly, a move aimed at minimizing human control over the system.
