Chicken prices have surged significantly across Punjab, with broiler chicken now priced at Rs490 per kg and its meat being sold at an alarming Rs800 per kg, on Friday.
The sharp increase has left authorities struggling to control the rising rates, sparking concern among consumers. The hike comes just months after a notable drop in May, when chicken prices fell by Rs39 per kg in Lahore, bringing the rate down to Rs416 per kg.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has pledged to take strict action against those exploiting the situation. To address the issue, the government has launched an inquiry into poultry farmers and traders, requisitioning stock data to investigate the sudden price spike.
Efforts to stabilize the market are underway, but the rapid rise in prices continues to impact consumers across the province.
