After intense speculations and weeks of rumors, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif has selected Lt Gen Asim Munir as the new COAS, the chief of army staff.
The announcement was made by Marriyum Aurangzeb the information minister on Twitter. She said the premier made his choice according to his constitutional powers. Further saying, Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza is chosen as the CJCSC – Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.
The summary of the same decision is sent to the President of Pakistan Arif Alvi, as per the information minister. Furthermore, minutes after the announcement was made, Khawaja Asif the defense minister said that the advice was sent to the President. Moreover, he further asked the people of Pakistan to not view this decision from the “political lens”. As the decision was made according to the law and the constitution. He hoped that the advice of the premier will not be made “controversial” by the President.
