Defence Minister Khawaja Asif will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) defence ministers’ meeting digitally, according to a Foreign Office statement issued on Wednesday.

Khawaja Asif will attend the two-day SCO meeting via video link. The two-day gathering will begin in New Delhi tomorrow (April 27).

For the meeting, India has invited the Pakistani military minister as well as other SCO members.

India is the current president of the SCO and is hosting a number of events this year.

China, Russia, India, Pakistan, and key Central Asian states are members of the SCO. In 2017, India and Pakistan were admitted as full members of the regional grouping.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will represent Pakistan in the SCO meeting next month in India.

On May 4-5, Pakistani President Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will lead a group of Pakistani officials to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) meeting in Goa, India. Mumtaz Zehra Baloch, Foreign Office spokesperson, stated last week during a weekly news briefing.

During the visit to India, Pakistan’s foreign minister will also attend discussions on the sidelines of the SCO summit.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari attended the Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Tashkent last July.

The foreign minister is attending the meeting at the invitation of Dr. S Jaishankar, India’s Minister of External Affairs.
