Karachi’s business sector is set to launch a new airline, Air Karachi, marking a significant development in Pakistan’s aviation industry. Business magnate Hanif Gohar confirmed the airline’s official registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), and a formal license application has already been submitted to the federal government.
In its initial phase, Air Karachi plans to lease three aircraft. The airline will be led by retired Air Vice Marshal Imran, who has been appointed CEO. The project has an initial investment of Rs. 5 billion, with each shareholder contributing Rs. 50 million.
This announcement comes amidst a rising trend of new airlines entering the Pakistani market. Other companies like Jet Green, Q Airways, and Go Green Air have also applied for licenses from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
Experts believe that the surge in new airlines will benefit Pakistan’s economy by providing more travel options, boosting foreign exchange, and creating new jobs. Currently, Pakistan’s aviation industry is dominated by private carriers such as Airblue, SereneAir, and AirSial.
