Karachi Airport Tightens Security: New Entry Restrictions for Visitors

Karachi Airport Tightens Security: New Entry Restrictions for Visitors

Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport has implemented new security measures requiring visitors accompanying travelers to carry a copy of the airline ticket, on Tuesday. The tightened protocols follow a recent security incident involving an attack on Chinese nationals near the airport, which authorities believe was aided from inside the facility.

Under the updated guidelines, each passenger can be accompanied by a maximum of four visitors, who must present a copy of the airline ticket if asked by security personnel. Those without a ticket copy will not be permitted to enter the airport premises. Additionally, individuals coming to pick up arriving passengers will need to bring their own Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) for identification.

The airport authority has confirmed that these new security protocols will take effect soon to strengthen safety and prevent unauthorized access.

In a related briefing, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar, alongside IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon, praised the swift action of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh police in identifying and apprehending suspects connected to the recent attack. According to Lanjar, the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the incident.

Lanjar revealed that Rs7.1 million was allegedly funneled into a Karachi bank account by an individual named Saeed, with assistance from a bank employee, to purchase the vehicle used in the attack. It is suspected that the car was then moved out of Karachi for modification with explosives.

These enhanced security measures aim to prevent similar incidents and ensure the safety of passengers and airport personnel.
