At the World Economic Forum in Davos, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva expressed strong admiration for the economic reforms led by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. She emphasized the Prime Minister’s dedication to driving positive change and development within the country.

IMF Managing Director’s Remarks on Pakistan’s Progress

During her media interaction, Georgieva stated she holds “utmost respect” for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, noting his determination to follow through on initiatives. She highlighted that when the Prime Minister commits to a goal, he ensures its completion.

Ongoing Collaboration and Reform Implementation

Georgieva mentioned that she and the Prime Minister have met multiple times to assess progress on previously set targets and to outline new development priorities. She praised the seriousness with which the Prime Minister and his cabinet approach Pakistan’s development and the execution of a challenging reform agenda.

Positive Outcomes and Budgetary Discipline

The IMF chief acknowledged the long-standing constructive relationship between the IMF and Pakistan. She noted that the current government’s committed reform efforts are beginning to yield results. For the first time, clear budgetary discipline has been observed, with resources being allocated toward initiatives that improve the lives of Pakistani citizens.
