“The government of Sindh has decided to provide solar systems to Thar residents using the royalty fund received in exchange for Thar coal.”

According to information, Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh, Provincial Minister for Energy, has announced that royalty payments received in return for Thar Coal Block 2 will be used to build solar systems in Thar people’s homes.

The 15th Thar Foundation Board meeting presided over by Sindh’s Energy Minister, addressed specific exchanges for delivering public utilities through the Thar Foundation.

The provincial minister for Energy, Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh, mentioned that on the directives of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, the royalty funds received from Thar Coal Block 2 will be spent on installing solar systems in the homes of Thar residents. This step aims to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply, including water supply, to the residents of Thar.

It was announced at the conference that the Thar Foundation had established 28 schools through the TCF (The Citizens Foundation). Out of these, 23 schools are completely operating; in the meantime, various programmes for teacher education have been implemented.

To promote a healthy atmosphere for children, the schools include sports facilities, particularly cricket. In terms of skill development, the Pakistan Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management (PITHM) is collaborating to deliver training programmes in hotel management, tourism, vocational training for women, and information technology.

The process of establishing a mental health hospital is also underway. During the meeting, the participants were informed that financial support has also been provided for the relocation of residents from the Thar Coal Plant site.
