Director General ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has urged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government to fulfill its responsibility of protecting citizens instead of “begging Afghanistan for security.” Speaking at a press conference in Peshawar, he stressed that maintaining law and order is a provincial duty and cannot be outsourced to any foreign entity.

Lt Gen Chaudhry revealed that in 2024, over 14,500 intelligence-based operations were conducted nationwide, resulting in the elimination of 769 terrorists, including 58 Afghan nationals. He added that 272 security personnel, 140 police officers, and 165 civilians were martyred during these operations. From January to September 2025, more than 10,000 operations have been carried out, killing 970 terrorists and costing the lives of 311 soldiers.

The DG ISPR expressed concern over the selective implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP), noting that political interference had weakened the overall counterterrorism framework. He emphasized that terrorist elements are being supported through cross-border networks and modern weaponry allegedly originating from Afghanistan.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to engage diplomatically with its neighbors but maintained that the responsibility to protect lives lies primarily with domestic institutions. Lt Gen Chaudhry concluded that security forces will continue their operations relentlessly until peace is fully restored.
