The Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Karachi, S.M. Mahbubul Alam, has announced plans to hold a trade exhibition in collaboration with the Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders & Small Industry (HCSTSI) to strengthen trade relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The event, scheduled for Hyderabad, aims to facilitate Pakistani importers and exporters while highlighting opportunities for enhanced collaboration. Mr. Alam also extended an invitation to Pakistani businesses to participate in Bangladesh’s Annual Trade Exhibition in Dhaka in January 2025, promising a streamlined visa process for attendees.

Speaking at the HCSTSI Secretariat, Mr. Alam emphasized Bangladesh’s commitment to fostering trade partnerships. He highlighted that Bangladesh exports to over 80 countries, generating significant revenue, and expressed optimism about expanding trade with Pakistan. Direct flights between the two nations, set to begin soon, are expected to enhance business connectivity further.

“The purpose of my visit is to strengthen business-to-business connections,” Mr. Alam stated, inviting HCSTSI delegations to explore Bangladesh’s market. He also assured personal oversight of visa processing to support traders.

HCSTSI President Muhammad Saleem Memon welcomed the initiative, acknowledging the shared history and trade relations between the two countries. Memon praised recent achievements, including the successful direct cargo shipment from Pakistan to Bangladesh on November 11, 2024.

He urged Bangladeshi delegations to attend Pakistani trade exhibitions and called for simplified visa procedures and a direct trade line to reduce logistical barriers. Memon also proposed forming a liaison committee to address trade hurdles, particularly customs delays in Dhaka.

The event was attended by prominent members of the HCSTSI, including former presidents, executive committee members, and conveners. Speakers emphasized the importance of sustained dialogue and collaboration to unlock the full potential of Pakistan-Bangladesh trade relations.
