Former MNA and prominent member of the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Amir Mehmood Kiyani has decided to leave the party due to a “difference of opinion.”

In an interview with the media, the PTI leader stated that he will soon address an important conference where he will announce not just his resignation from the PTI but also from “politics.”

He expressed regret for the May 9 violent protests by PTI officials, workers, and fans, saying the events had altered his opinion about his political future.

“I made my decision two months ago, but I will formally announce it today,” he added, adding that he could not go against the military.

Amir Mehmood Kayani was the Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulation, and Coordination in the PTI government from 20 August 2018 to 18 April 2019. From August 2018 to January 2023, he was a member of Pakistan’s National Assembly.

Earlier on Tuesday, Mahmood Moulvi, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA from Karachi, announced his resignation from the party.

During a news conference in Karachi, the PTI MNA announced his resignation from the party in view of the attacks on military sites during the country’s violent rallies on May 9 following Imran Khan’s imprisonment.

“I have never gone against, nor will I ever go against the army,” he had said. Moulvi further revealed that he might join a charitable organisation or form a new political party.
