WASHINGTON — Indiana-based egg producer Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. has initiated a voluntary recall of nearly 1.6 million dozen eggs following concerns over potential Salmonella Enteritidis contamination, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced.
The precautionary recall affects 1,589,577 dozen white shell and brown cage-free shell eggs produced at the company’s Texas facilities between June 6 and July 3, 2026.

Affected Products: White shell eggs and brown cage-free shell eggs.
Production Origin: Midwest Poultry Services farms located in Texas.
Distribution Dates: Distributed between June 6, 2026, and July 3, 2026.
Expiration Dates: Sell-by or Best-By dates ranging from July 20, 2026, through August 17, 2026.
Plant Codes & Julian Dates: Marked with plant codes P-1950 or 0840962 and Julian dates 157 through 184.

The recalled eggs were distributed to major grocery chains and smaller independent retailers across six states:
Kroger Stores: Texas and Louisiana
Brookshire Grocery Stores: Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, and New Mexico
Brands Included: Kroger, Simple Truth, Brookshire’s, Country Morning, and Sunups.
Preventive Measures and Company Response
Midwest Poultry Services identified the contamination risk through routine environmental monitoring and root cause analysis at its Texas farms. In response, the supplier has:
Paused Distribution: Temporarily halted all shipments of fresh eggs originating from its Texas production sites pending an internal investigation.
Stock Removal: Worked with retail partners, including Brookshire Grocery Company, to immediately remove potentially impacted inventory from store shelves.
Alternative Sourcing: Retailers have confirmed that replacement eggs currently on shelves are sourced from unaffected production facilities.
Guidance for Consumers
The FDA advises consumers who have purchased any of the affected products to:
Avoid Consumption: Do not consume, cook with, or serve the recalled eggs.
Return for Refund: Return the eggs to the store where they were purchased for a full refund or dispose of them safely.
Monitor Symptoms: Salmonella can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps. High-risk groups—including young children, elderly adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems—should seek medical attention if symptoms develop.
