At the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit 2025 in Egypt, US President Donald Trump lauded Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir for their roles in supporting the Gaza Peace Plan, calling Pakistan’s contribution “a remarkable example of responsible leadership.”

During the peace summit, which brought together over 20 world leaders, Trump thanked Shehbaz Sharif for his diplomatic engagement and even invited him to address the gathering. The Pakistani premier received applause for his remarks supporting humanitarian relief and long-term stability in Gaza.

In a light-hearted moment, after Shehbaz’s address, Trump quipped, “Wow! I didn’t expect that. Let’s go home — there’s nothing more I have to say. Goodbye, everybody.” The comment drew laughter from the audience and reflected the cordial tone of the event.

Trump also acknowledged Field Marshal Asim Munir, referring to him as “my favourite Field Marshal.” The statement was widely noted by regional observers as a sign of appreciation for Pakistan’s constructive diplomatic and security role in supporting mediation efforts for the Gaza ceasefire.

The Sharm el-Sheikh Summit 2025, co-hosted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, focused on formalizing a multilateral peace framework for Gaza. The plan aims to ensure humanitarian access, uphold the ceasefire, and initiate reconstruction efforts under UN supervision.

Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s consistent support for an independent State of Palestine within pre-1967 borders, with Al Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital. His participation in the summit was praised globally as part of Pakistan’s broader effort to promote regional peace and diplomatic cooperation.
