Pakistan Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh on November 6, 2024, to discuss shared concerns, including regional peace, defense, and security cooperation, according to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The meeting reflects Pakistan and Saudi Arabia’s mutual commitment to bolstering their alliance amid rising regional tensions.

The talks follow Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia, where he met with the crown prince to discuss economic ties and regional developments. The prime minister emphasized the Kingdom’s essential role in Pakistan’s economic future. During the visit, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia agreed to increase economic cooperation, following 27 agreements and MoUs signed in October, valued at $2.2 billion, with plans to raise the figure to $2.8 billion.

General Munir’s meeting at the Royal Palace in Riyadh focused on enhancing bilateral relations and exploring strategies to foster stability in the region. ISPR noted that Munir expressed his gratitude to the crown prince for his steadfast support in advancing peace across the region.

In addition, General Munir met with Saudi Arabia’s Defense Minister, Prince Khalid Bin Salman, where both leaders affirmed their commitment to further strengthening defense and security cooperation. He also held discussions with other top Saudi defense officials, including the assistant minister of defense, air chief, and senior commanders of the Royal Saudi Armed Forces.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia maintain robust ties based on shared history, culture, faith, and economic collaboration. Saudi Arabia is the largest source of remittances to Pakistan, which significantly aids Pakistan’s $350 billion economy. Riyadh has repeatedly supported Pakistan through its economic challenges, providing financial aid, debt relief, and oil on deferred payments.
