Faisalabad is preparing to roll out its much-anticipated Metro Bus Service, with the project costing Rs70 billion. The Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) is fast-tracking efforts to bring this major public transport system to the city.
Approved by the Punjab government, the initiative aims to provide safe and affordable intercity transportation to Faisalabad residents.
In a press conference, FDA Director General Chaudhry Muhammad Asif revealed that preliminary planning—comprising a comprehensive survey, sectoral analysis, and strategic transport framework—has been completed. This marks the first large-scale public transport project for the city.
Last week, a consultative workshop in Lahore, chaired by Punjab’s Minister for Transport and Mass Transit, Bilal Akbar Khan, gathered representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) alongside transport and planning officials. Discussions centered on the technical and administrative aspects of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.
Experts, both international and national, provided insights into the project’s design, operation, and proposed routes. Asif emphasized the partnership between the Punjab government and ADB, which aims to deliver an eco-friendly, high-capacity, and cost-effective bus service similar to those already in operation in Karachi, Lahore, and Peshawar.
