Several new airlines are planning to launch operations in cities across Pakistan, quoting the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
Local airlines such as Jet Green, Q Airways, and Go Green Air have submitted applications for licenses and permits to the CAA. Additionally, Air Indus has approached the CAA to resume flight operations, while Q Aviation and Liberty Air are also seeking approvals to begin services in Pakistan.
CAA officials highlighted that the surge in license applications is significant for the country’s economy. The entry of new airlines is expected to provide passengers with more travel options, boost foreign exchange in the aviation sector, and create new job opportunities.
Currently, three private airlines — Airblue, SereneAir, and AirSial — are operating in Pakistan.
In May, the CAA released a six-month performance report for domestic airlines, including Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). Covering the period from July to December 2023, the report ranked PIA fourth, with an 89.32 percent departure and arrival ratio, indicating room for improvement in operational efficiency.
