Pakistan Aims to Strengthen Ties with China in Agriculture and AI, Says PM Sharif

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s desire to deepen collaboration with China in agriculture, artificial intelligence (AI), and other key sectors during a meeting with Chinese envoy Jiang Zaidong on September 2, 2024, in Islamabad. He praised China’s continuous support and strategic partnership with Pakistan, highlighting its significance for regional and global peace.

Sharif noted that the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and China has withstood challenges and played a pivotal role in fostering development in both countries. “Pak-China friendship is crucial not only for our nations but also for peace and prosperity in the region,” he said.

China has made significant investments in Pakistan, particularly under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a multibillion-dollar initiative aimed at improving infrastructure and connectivity. While CPEC projects span the country, considerable focus has been placed on Balochistan, a province facing security challenges due to an ongoing insurgency.

Sharif acknowledged China’s security concerns following recent attacks targeting Chinese workers and projects. Pakistan has been actively addressing these issues to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and investments.

During his five-day visit to China in June 2024, Sharif met with political leaders and business representatives, encouraging further investments in Pakistan. He highlighted plans to advance CPEC into its next phase, which will focus on industrial zones and business-to-business collaborations.

Pakistani officials have reported growing interest from Chinese companies looking to set up industries in the country, signifying the strengthening economic ties between the two nations.
