On the 76th anniversary of his martyrdom, Pakistan pays homage to Captain Raja Muhammad Sarwar, the first recipient of the country’s highest military honor, the Nishan-e-Haider.

The Armed Forces of Pakistan, including the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and Service Chiefs, commemorated Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed’s exceptional bravery and steadfastness in protecting the homeland. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) emphasized that this anniversary serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s Armed Forces.

Captain Raja Muhammad Sarwar was among the early heroes who laid down their lives shortly after the creation of Pakistan during the first war in Kashmir. Born in 1910 in Gujar Khan, he joined the forces in 1929 and served with distinction, eventually rising to the rank of captain by 1946.

In 1948, as a company commander, Captain Sarwar Shaheed led his battalion in a daring mission in Kashmir. His exemplary courage and leadership were evident as he spearheaded an attack against heavily fortified enemy positions. He was martyred on July 27, 1948, during this valiant assault.

In recognition of his unparalleled valor and dedication, Captain Sarwar was posthumously awarded the Nishan-e-Haider in 1956. His legacy continues to inspire and is honored annually on his martyrdom anniversary, reflecting the nation’s deep respect and gratitude for his ultimate sacrifice.
