Pakistan Day is being celebrated across the nation with a revitalized commitment to the advancement and stability of Pakistan. This significant day marks the commemoration of the Lahore Resolution, passed on 23rd March 1940, and the adoption of Pakistan’s first Constitution on 23rd March 1956, establishing Pakistan as the world’s first Islamic Republic.

The Lahore Resolution, spearheaded by the Indian Muslim League under the leadership of Quaid-i-Azam M.A. Jinnah, was adopted at the historic Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore, calling for the creation of an independent federation named Pakistan. It envisioned provinces with Muslim majorities in the north-western and north-eastern regions of British-controlled territories in India.

The day commenced with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and a 21-gun salute in provincial capitals. Special prayers were offered in mosques after Fajr prayers for the prosperity and unity of the country, with the national flag proudly hoisted atop major government buildings.

A highlight of the celebrations is the grand military parade in Islamabad, featuring contingents from the three armed forces and other security forces marching past, accompanied by awe-inspiring aerobatic maneuvers by fighter planes. Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman Al Saud graces the occasion as the guest of honor, with contingents from China and Azerbaijan also participating in the parade.

Later in the day, an investiture ceremony will take place at Aiwan-e-Sadar, where President Asif Ali Zardari will bestow awards and medals upon individuals for their outstanding contributions in various fields.
