Pervez Khattak, the chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-Parliamentarians (PTI-P), has resigned from his positions as party chairman and member citing “serious health issues.” This decision comes in the wake of PTI-P’s disappointing performance in the 2024 nationwide elections, prompting Khattak to announce his temporary departure from politics on February 12.

Once considered a close confidant of PTI founder Imran Khan, Khattak later formed his faction within the party. His resignation from the party’s leadership positions has been accepted by the PTI-P leadership.

In a copy of his resignation, Khattak expressed regret over stepping down but emphasized his inability to fulfill his duties due to health reasons. He thanked the party for the opportunity to serve as chairman and wished for its continued success in the future.

Despite a robust election campaign marked by large public gatherings, Khattak’s party only managed to secure two provincial seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) following the February 8 polls.

Prior to Khattak’s resignation, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Sirajul Haq and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) founder Jahangir Tareen also stepped down from their respective party offices after facing setbacks in the nationwide polls.
