The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected a recent resolution passed in the upper house that called for a delay in the upcoming general elections.
In a letter to the Senate Secretariat, the ECP asserted that, after thorough review, they have determined that postponing the polls at this stage is not feasible.
The ECP had previously set the date for the general elections on February 8, 2024, following consultations with President Dr. Arif Alvi. The electoral body has communicated with the caretaker federal and provincial governments, ensuring all necessary preparations have been completed.
Despite multiple resolutions in the Senate urging a delay citing security and weather concerns, the ECP remains steadfast in its decision to hold the elections as scheduled.
Senator Dilawar Khan has expressed concern over the lack of action regarding the resolution passed on January 5, emphasizing the importance of addressing security and weather conditions to maintain the fairness and transparency of the elections.
