ECP Rejects Imran Khan's Nomination Papers in Lahore and Mianwali

On Saturday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) dealt a blow to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as it rejected the nomination papers of the party’s founder, Imran Khan, for two National Assembly constituencies – NA 122 in Lahore and NA-89 in Mianwali.

The rejection was based on Imran Khan’s conviction, as stated by the returning officer (RO) handling the case. Mian Naseer of PML-N raised objections, citing that Imran Khan’s seconder and proposer did not belong to NA-122, a legal requirement for candidacy.

Additionally, he emphasized that Imran Khan, who submitted his papers for the NA-122 constituency, is a convicted individual and thus ineligible to participate in the polls.

The scrutiny of nomination papers for candidates in the upcoming general elections in 2024 will continue until December 30. Appeals against the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers can be submitted until January 3, with decisions on these appeals expected by January 10.

The list of candidates will be displayed on January 11, and withdrawals can be made until January 12. Electoral symbols will be allotted on January 13, leading up to the general elections scheduled for February 8.
