Pakistan Prohibits New Year's celebration in Support of Palestinians

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar declared on Thursday that all New Year’s celebrations are prohibited throughout Pakistan, aligning with the nation’s expression of solidarity with Palestinians who have been enduring severe Israeli aggression since October 7.

Pakistan has consistently voiced support for the oppressed Palestinians at international platforms and condemned Israel’s actions, which have resulted in the loss of thousands of lives.

During a televised address, Kakar stated, “The Pakistani nation is in a state of sadness. Considering the situation, the Government of Pakistan has opted to ban all New Year’s-related celebrations.”

He appealed to all Pakistanis to demonstrate solidarity with the oppressed Palestinians and urged simplicity in observing the new year, emphasizing the catastrophic nature of the current situation.

As the conflict between Israel and Hamas persists, Israel’s determined efforts to dismantle Hamas have led to an ongoing and devastating air and ground offensive. The impact on Gaza has been severe, with widespread destruction and a death toll of at least 21,320 people, predominantly women and children.

The situation in Gaza remains dire as the war extends beyond 12 weeks, and Israeli officials have vowed to continue their assault on the Hamas-controlled territory for several more months.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the head of the World Health Organization, expressed grave concern about the population of Gaza, citing severe injuries, acute hunger, and a high risk of disease.
