PHC to Hear PTI's Petition Against Ruling on Intra-Party Polls and Electoral Symbol Today

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has contested the Election Commission’s decision on the party’s internal elections in the Peshawar High Court (PHC).

The petition argues that the election commission exceeded its authority in determining the party’s election procedures. It highlights that those challenging the intra-party elections are not even members of the party.

The petition states that the Election Commission declared PTI’s intra-party elections void and withdrew its electoral symbol, the ‘bat.’ The PHC has scheduled the hearing for today, with Justice Kamran Hayat Miankhel presiding.

The petitioner seeks the suspension of the election commission’s decision regarding the party elections and the electoral symbol. PTI has requested the court to form a bench of senior judges and hear the case promptly.

ECP and those contesting PTI’s intra-party election are named as respondents in the petition.

Following the ECP’s verdict on December 22, PTI lost its electoral symbol, and the newly elected PTI chairman, Gohar Ali Khan, no longer holds the party’s leadership.

The ECP, led by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, declared PTI’s intra-party elections null and void. Notable challengers to PTI’s intra-party polls included Akbar S. Babar, Raja Tahir Nawaz, and Naureen Farooq.
