A field hospital with 170 personnel, dispatched by Jordan, entered the Gaza Strip on Monday, marking the first such deployment since the conflict between Israel and Hamas began on October 7.
The Gaza health system has faced a collapse due to intense bombardment, fuel shortages, and a lack of medical supplies. With most hospitals non-functional, the field hospital, with a 41-bed capacity, will be set up in Khan Yunis in the south to address the critical situation.
Palestinian officials report around 30,000 wounded people in Gaza, with 13,000 fatalities, mainly civilians. The field hospital aims to alleviate the strain on existing health services in the region.
The Jordanian royal palace stated that the deployment includes 170 personnel and 40 trucks of medical aid. Palestinian medics are hopeful that additional field hospitals from the United Arab Emirates and Qatar will follow. All entries into Gaza via the Rafah crossing with Egypt are subject to Israeli approval.
