The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman’s bail plea in the cipher case was rejected by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday.

In a recent development, Chief Justice Aamer Farooq of the Islamabad High Court has not only rejected a plea to halt the trial of the cipher case but has also turned down a bail request from the Chief of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.

It’s worth noting that Judge Aamer Farooq, of the Islamabad High Court, had reserved his verdict on October 16, allowing ample time for both the prosecution and defense to present their arguments and evidence. Currently, the PTI Chief is behind bars on judicial remand related to the cipher case.

The cipher case revolves around the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) on August 15 under the Official Secrets Act, prompted by a complaint from the Home Secretary.

The report mentioned former Prime Minister Imran Khan and former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, with additional mentions of former Principal Secretary Azam Khan and former Planning Minister Asad Umar. The FIR alleges that the former Prime Minister and Foreign Minister distorted the facts within a diplomatic cipher and conspired to misuse its contents for malicious purposes. It further contends that these actions put the interests of the state in jeopardy.
