Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif has been granted bail in the Toshakhana case by an accountability court.

This case involves allegations that Nawaz Sharif acquired luxury vehicles from the treasury (Toshakhana) by paying only 15% of their actual price.

In 2020, Nawaz Sharif was declared a ‘proclaimed offender’ in the Toshakhana reference by an accountability court, and a permanent arrest warrant was issued due to his continuous absence. However, shortly before his return to Pakistan, his arrest warrant was suspended on October 19.

On Tuesday, Nawaz Sharif surrendered before Judge Muhammad Bashir’s court in connection with the Toshakhana case. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was directed not to arrest him until October 24, which is today. Following the court’s attendance record, Nawaz Sharif was permitted to leave the premises.

Nawaz Sharif has been granted bail in the Toshakhana case upon posting a surety bond of Rs1 million.

During the court hearing, the NAB prosecutor did not oppose the petition against the arrest warrant of the former prime minister in the Toshakhana reference, which was conducted by Judge Mohammad Bashir.
