Shift Ex-PM Imran Khan to Adiala Jail: IHC directs authorities

Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered the relocation of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan from Attock prison to Adiala jail on Monday.

The announcement was made during a hearing addressing the prison accommodations provided to the PTI leader, was based on a regulation stipulating that trials for inmates charged in Islamabad should occur in the relevant prison.

Chief Justice Aamer Farooq of the IHC, presiding over the PTI’s petition, inquired about the rationale behind detaining Khan in Attock jail instead of Adiala jail, given that he is an under-trial prisoner in the cipher case registered in Islamabad.

He further questioned whether the trial would be moved to Rahim Yar Khan if Khan were transferred there, seeking input from Additional Attorney General Munawar Iqbal Dogar.

During the proceedings, Khan’s attorney, Advocate Sher Afzal Marwat, requested the provision of an exercise machine for his client.

Justice Farooq noted that the jail no longer classified inmates into A and C classes and now had general and improved classes. Barrister Salman Safdar, the counsel for the former prime minister, confirmed that Imran Khan was entitled to the better class.

The chief justice emphasized that Khan should receive the entitlements he is due and that his rights must be upheld.
