Kurram police have appointed Samreen Amir as the first extra station house officer (Ad-SHO) for the first time.
This is the first time a female police officer has been assigned as an auxiliary SHO in a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) former tribal district. In addition, another woman has been added as a moharar.
“Samreen Amir has been assigned as the extra SHO of the Parachinar police station in the Kurram district.” “We’ve also assigned another woman, Sofia, as an additional moharar to the same police station,” said Kurram district police officer (DPO) Imran Mirza.
Sofia Masih was formerly assigned to the women’s desk in Kurram a few years ago.
Apart from these two women, the Kurram DPO stated that additional policewomen in the district are also being trained so that they can participate in routine police operations more effectively.
This is crucial for the erstwhile tribal districts because there aren’t many women working as SHOs in KP’s settled districts, including Peshawar.
In the Gulberg police station in Peshawar, only one woman was assigned as acting SHO – and only for a few days.
In the past, no other woman cop from the province who was hired as a constable or assistant sub-inspector could become a SHO or sub-divisional officer in any KP town. Some of these women have progressed to the position of superintendent of police.
However, a few female police officers remained SDPOs and district police officers in KP. Sonia Shamroz, a Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) official, is now working as the DPO in Battagram, Hazara region.
