On Tuesday (today), the caretaker government is likely to make a final decision on electricity bill relief.

According to sources, the caretaker government is expected to make a final decision on relief measures for high electricity bills today.

Today, Energy Minister Muhammad Ali met with Caretaker Prime Minister (PM) Anwaarul Haq Kakar to review the entire issue following the nationals’ receipt of inflated electricity bills.

They held consultations on several alternatives for providing relief to electricity consumers.

Today, the caretaker premier called another session, which would be attended by representatives from the Ministry of Water and Power as well as power distribution businesses.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar set a 48-hour deadline for developing a strategy on Sunday, amid escalating public outrage over rising electricity prices.

The caretaker PM was briefed on the increase in July electricity bills at an emergency meeting called to address rising electricity rates.

He stated that such measures should be implemented in order to reduce the load on the national exchequer while also providing convenience to customers.

During the meeting, it was decided that a full dialogue on the issue of excess in July bills and the implementation of energy-saving measures would be discussed with the provincial chief ministers tomorrow.

People across Pakistan are protesting the increased energy rates in order to put pressure on the government to provide relief.

The protesting masses have demanded that the government discontinue the distribution of free power to notables and provide them with assistance because the bills they have been receiving exceed their incomes.
