The UAE Green visa is designed primarily for persons who want to migrate to the UAE but are not tied to a certain company. The UAE’s Green visa allows its holder to self-sponsor for five years without the necessity for a sponsoring employer or UAE national.
According to the Abu Dhabi Residents Office (ADRO), the purpose of this new visa is to open up the job market and attract exceptional talent to the UAE. When compared to individuals with traditional resident visas, it not only provides a long-term residency option but also additional benefits to the visa holder’s family.

Benefits of the Green Visa No longer requires a job to live in the UAE
Sons under the age of 25 and unmarried females of any age may be sponsored. The Green Visa also includes a six-month grace period after the 5-year validity term expires.
Application requirements for independent contractors or self-employed individuals
Those who are self-employed or freelancing must obtain a freelance/self-employment permit from the Ministry of Human Resources. A bachelor’s degree or specialist certification is required for emiratization.Proof of two years’ worth of self-employment income totaling at least AED 360,000, or proof of financial stability throughout their stay in the UAE.
Application requirements for skilled workers
- A legally valid employment contract is essential. It should fall into the first, second, or third occupational level classifications, according to the Ministry of Human Resources.
- A bachelor’s degree or its equivalent is required.
- A monthly salary of at least 15,000 AED is required.
Investor application requirements
- ICP approval of the investment is based on the investor rating system.
- Investment proof: The total amount invested will be determined by the number of licences held by the investor or partner.
- Qualified local authorities must approve.

- Select the relevant subcategory: Work as a consultant, freelancer, partner, investor, or expert.
- Include all required documentation.
- Pay the required service costs (2,280 dirhams).
