Pakistan’s parliament is set to be dissolved today (Wednesday), three days before the end of its five-year term.
The last session of the parliament’s joint sitting will be conducted tonight at 5:30 p.m. There is also a two-point agenda for the combined session. The agenda includes traditional Quran recitation, Naat-e-Rasool, and the national hymn.
The gathering will also discuss current national concerns such as law and order, economic policy, Kashmir, and foreign policy. Furthermore, the agenda includes the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and raising awareness about climate change in order to create a consensus.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Shareef is also set to address the joint session, after announcing that he will submit a summary for the dissolution of the National Assembly to the president on Wednesday (today).
Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif said on Tuesday that he would write to President Dr. Arif Alvi on Wednesday (August 9) to request the dissolution of the National Assembly (NA).
“After we finish our term, I will write and send President Alvi advice to dissolve the assembly, and an interim government will take over,” the prime minister said during a ceremony in Islamabad.
