Hazara Express tragedy: Investigators to inspect crash site today
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterLinkedinWhatsapp

Today (Monday), the Railway Department will investigate the site of the Hazara Express accident in Sanghar’s Nawabshah district to gather evidence for investigations into the horrific train crash that killed over 30 persons and injured 130.

On Sunday, ten bogies of the Havelian-bound Hazara Express derailed near Sahara Railway Station in Sindh’s Nawabshah district, around 275 kilometres from Karachi.

Train movements on the impacted up-track have been suspended after the crash’s stoppage. However, approximately 18 hours after the accident, the down-track was restored, and train departures from several stations that were experiencing delays commenced.

Railway officials estimate that it will take several hours to rebuild the compromised track.

The derailed bogies of the Hazara Express have been removed from the track while repairs are being carried out.

Railways Inspector Ali Mohammad Afridi of the Federal Government stated that the up-track will be fully restored in four to five hours.

Speaking to the media in Sanghar, the official stated that a site inspection is scheduled for today, and that the investigation would begin in four to five days after the involved persons’ statements are recorded.

According to Afridi, the train incident damaged 300-400 kilometres of track, which is currently being rebuilt.

The track, coaches, and locomotives were being inspected, and the markings visible on the affected tracks were caused by nut bolts and wheel flanges, he noted.

Meanwhile, the administrator of the Peoples Medical Hospital in Nawabshah stated that over 120 injured people had been sent to the institution, with the majority of them being discharged following treatment.

It was stated that 30 patients are currently receiving therapy.

The heirs claimed and took 29 bodies, but the bodies of two deceased women, who could not be recognized, remain at the hospital.

On Sunday, the railway tracks saw horrifying pictures of overturned bogies, with people and bodies trapped beneath the destroyed train.

The locals of Sanghar and Nawabshah set a great example by initiating the rescue works before the police and rescue teams could reach the shite, shifting a large number of wounded people to the medical facility immediately.

The cause of the accident still remains unknown. However, the authorities said that a thorough investigation will be done into the matter.
