President Arif Alvi named Justice Qazi Faez Isa, a senior puisne judge of the Supreme Court, as the country’s next top judge on Wednesday.
The new chief justice will take office on September 17, when the current top justice, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, retires.
According to a presidential statement, incumbent CJP Bandial will meet the retirement age under Article 179 of the Constitution on September 16, 2023.
“The chief justice has been appointed by the president in accordance with Article 175 of the Constitution.” “On September 17, 2023, the president will administer the oath to Justice Qazi Faez Isa,” it stated.
