Pakistani women fashion has always reflected a physical expression of progressiveness and defining its significance. Pakistan has created its own unique identity in the fashion world with limitless styles, stunning suits and cultural outfits. We have a rich history of fashion and style over the decades. Each decade had its own style which defined the people of that time.

Here is a brief history of women fashion over the decades:

1900-1910

Women fashion was highly influenced by Indian culture before partition. Sleek saaris adorned with a little bit of jewellery and short hair were in trend.

1910-1920

Ghagra with apparently long shirt and dupatta started trending with minimal jewellery.

Women Fashion

1920-1930

Muslim women started wearing their cultural clothes in this decade. A cotton frock paired with traditional shalwar and simple hairstyles.

1930-1940

Cotton or silk shirts with trousers, called plaso, became a wide fashion in 30s. Sleek and simple hairstyles were common.

Again the trend of wearing ghagra was in with short shirts and hair tucked in buns. Frocks were also a part of fashion in 40s.

Women Fashion

1950-1960

Pakistani fashion was evolving after independence. 1950s were glamourous. Fashion became liberal and tasteful. No sleeves became very popular in this decade.

1960-1970

In the 60s Pakistani fashion came under the influence of western fashion.  Short shirts with bright colors and half calf trousers or bell bottoms became everyone’s go to dresses.

Women Fashion

1970-1980

Long shirts matched with flared trousers were the highlight of 70s fashion. Shoes were statement pieces with long heels.

Women Fashion

1980-1990

In the 80s Zia-ul-Haq induced martial law. Women were encouraged to wear religious appropriate clothing with shirts becoming more longer and lengthy scarves.

1990-2000

Half sleeve dresses started trending. Makeup with metallic colors and hair chopped into a bob cut were a fashion statement.

Women Fashion

2000-2010

Trousers like wide leg, cigarette pants, jeans and tights all were in fashion in 2000s. Shirts remained long.

2010-2020

Embroidered dresses made their way back. Cigarette trousers, skinny jeans with short shirts overtook high street fashion.
