Greece boat disaster: PM Shehbaz Sharif orders crackdown against human smugglers

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged authorities on Sunday to conduct an investigation into the human trafficking that resulted in the sad shipwreck of migrants near Greece with some Pakistani citizens onboard.

In a statement, the prime minister instructed concerned authorities to launch a swift crackdown on agents participating in the horrendous crime of human trafficking and called for their prosecution.

The prime minister expressed his great regret and sorrow for the deaths of Pakistani nationals in the tragic tragedy off the coast of Greece, according to a press release from the PM Office Media Wing.

The prime minister expressed his great regret and sorrow for the deaths of Pakistani nationals in the tragic tragedy off the coast of Greece, according to a press release from the PM Office Media Wing.

Similarly, the chief secretary of Azad Jammu and Kashmir had entrusted a focus person with informing the Pakistan embassy and Greek authorities in Greece of the latest information on casualties and injuries.

According to the most recent media accounts, at least 78 people died on Wednesday when an overcrowded vessel capsized.

104 individuals were rescued and flown to Kalamata, Greece.

According to the Hellenic Coast Guard, the persons recovered thus far include 43 Egyptian nationals, 47 Syrian nationals, 12 Pakistani nationals, and two Palestinians. Eight of those who were rescued were minors.
