Cyclone Biparjoy Downgrades to a Depression, Resulting in Intense Rainfall

According to the Met Office, Cyclonic Storm Biparjoy has evolved into a Depression and is now centered over southwest Rajasthan in India and southeast Sindh (Tharparker).

During the previous 12 hours, the cyclone over Rann of Kutch moved northeastward near Latitude 24.4°N and Longitude 71.2°E.

The maximum sustained surface winds are 30-40 km/h with gusts up to 50 km/h. The cyclone is expected to continue east and diminish into a low-pressure region over Rajasthan, India.

Cyclone in the Arabian Sea Biparjoy slammed southeastern Sindh districts with heavy to very heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours, with the Tharparker district receiving the most rain.

According to the weather service, Nangarparkar received 269mm of rain, Mithi 196mm, Diplo 175mm, Islamkot 143mm, Kaloi 80mm, Chhachhro 44mm, Chhore 28.5mm, and Dalhi 25mm. Badin experienced 24.2mm of rain, Hyderabad (city) 10mm, the airport 04mm, and Thatta 05mm.

The Met Office predicts further rain-thunderstorms with a few heavy falls today, along with gusty winds of 30-40 km/h, with gusts of 50 km/h, in Tharparker, Umerkot, and parts of Badin districts.

Rain and thunderstorms are also forecast in the Sindh districts of Thatta, Sujawal, and Mirpurkhas.

Today’s forecast includes light rain or drizzles in Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Dadu, Jamshoro, Sanghar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Naushahro Feroze, Larkana, Qambar-Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, and Shikarpur.

Balochistan fishermen are recommended to begin fishing today, while Sindh fishermen are advised to return to the sea tomorrow.
