COAS Asim Munir stresses need for ‘enhanced’ Pak-Afghan cooperation to tackle terrorism

In a meeting with Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir emphasized the importance of increased cooperation between the two brotherly neighbors in combating terrorism and extremism.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), COAS Asim Munir and Afghan FM discussed areas of mutual concern, such as regional security, border control, and the formalization of bilateral security arrangements to better the existing security environment.

The army chief emphasized the importance of the Afghan Interim Government’s complete support and commitment in topics of mutual interest.

Furthermore, the visiting dignitary praised Pakistan’s long-standing support for the Afghan people and noted the critical role Pakistan continues to play in promoting peace and development in Afghanistan.

He also stated his intention to collaborate closely with Pakistan in order to foster regional peace and development.

Both parties agreed that it is critical to continue regular contact in order to develop bilateral ties and solve issues of mutual interest.

Pakistan’s commitment to a stable, peaceful, and successful Afghanistan was reaffirmed by the COAS.

COAS, Chinese FM discuss regional security situation

During the meeting, COAS Gen Munir underlined Pakistan’s commitment to the China-Pakistan Strategic Relationship. He also promised full support for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a key component of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

He also praised China’s steadfast support for Pakistan on regional and international challenges.

Foreign Minister Qin Gang emphasized the importance of the fraternal nations’ long-standing strategic cooperation and expressed pleasure with the CPEC progress while reiterating China’s commitment to its prompt completion.

He also praised Pakistan’s efforts to maintain regional peace and stability, particularly the Pakistan Armed Forces’ support for providing security to Chinese nationals and projects in Pakistan.

The two dignitaries also reviewed the region’s deteriorating security situation. COAS welcomed China’s contribution in fostering regional peace and stability, and both sides agreed to strengthen their current cooperation in the military and security fields to effectively fight mutual security issues.
